Recommendations and instructions
- The paper must focus on one of the four films listed under Films for the Final Paper.
- It must be an essay, analyzing the themes and the visual style of the film. It cannot be a generic treatment of the film, based on second-hand information.
- It must show that you can apply the general ideas and the specific concepts that were introduced during the semester, with particular reference to the commonalities and differences identified within the road movie genre.
- To that effect, you should keep in mind the five principles from the so-called “matrix,” listed inside the Viewing notes: instructions and recommendations (2023):
- Destination(s)
- Transformation(s)
- Impersonation(s)
- The road
- The hidden story, the narrative gaps, the unanswered questions
- Relevant comparisons and meaningful connections with other films presented in the course are strongly encouraged.
